20-baht flat-fare policy and ridership uplift

Per Seasia.co, ISEAS Perspective 2025/67, and Nation Thailand coverage: from 1 October 2025 (extended through 2025-2026) Bangkok introduced a flat-fare 20-baht-per-ride electric-train policy covering the BTS Green, SRT Red, MRT Blue, MRT Purple, Pink, Yellow, Gold lines, and the Airport Rail Link — approximately 279 km, 194 stations, all Thai-national-eligible (foreigners pay regular fare). Structural intent: lower the cost-of-living burden, divert private-car demand into mass transit, reduce urban air pollution. Per Kaohoon International broker coverage: every 10% ridership rise on Core Green, Pink, Yellow Lines is estimated to lift 2026 BTS Group profit by approximately 86% and 2027 profit by approximately 30%.

Per Nation Thailand: the seven months following the initial 20-baht cap rollout on Red and Purple Lines: Red Line ridership ~6.21M users (+27.61% YoY vs 2023); Purple Line ridership ~14.29M users (+11.53% YoY). During a January 2025 free-fare-week test, Yellow Line and Pink Line ridership grew by at least 50%. The fare-cap is fiscally subsidised — government compensates operators for forgone revenue at established per-passenger reimbursement rates; the structural risk is fiscal-sustainability of subsidy commitments through electoral cycles.
