The Bank of Thailand (BoT) has been among Asia's more active central bank digital currency researchers, participating in Project Inthanon for wholesale interbank settlement and the BIS Innovation Hub's mBridge multi-CBDC cross-border payment pilot alongside HKMA, PBoC, and CBUAE. A limited retail CBDC pilot was conducted with approximately 10,000 volunteer participants through select commercial banks to test programmable-money use cases such as conditional vouchers.
