Thailand Crosses Aged-Society Threshold (60+ at 20% of Population) in 2027

~14.5M elderly out of 70M (20.7%)

As ofProjection to end-2027·Sources3·Primary

The National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC) projects Thailand's population aged 60 and above to reach approximately 14.5 million by end-2027 against a 70 million total, crossing the United Nations aged-society threshold of 20 percent. The 60+ share was roughly 13 percent in 2015 and is on track for a super-aged (28 percent) threshold around 2033. The fertility component (total fertility rate 1.0 to 1.2 since 2023) is the structural driver; in-bound retiree visas are a rounding-error contributor. This demographic step is the binding catalyst for the Long-Term Care reimbursement formulary expansion that brings telecare and service-robotics devices into NHSO coverage in 2026 to 2027.
