Thailand HS 84-85 machinery and electrical imports (2020-2024)

~USD 89B (2024)

As of2020-2024·Sources1·Primary·Historical series (5 points)

Thailand's combined imports under HS Chapter 84 (mechanical machinery, including industrial pumps, compressors, machine tools, packaging equipment) and HS Chapter 85 (electrical machinery, including motors, transformers, semiconductors) reached approximately USD 89 billion in 2024 per Thai Customs Department and Ministry of Commerce data, up sharply from a 2020 trough of roughly USD 65 billion. The growth was driven by BOI-promoted EV battery plant capex (BYD Rayong, GWM, MG-SAIC), electronics expansion (Western Digital, Seagate, Delta), and food processing modernisation. Japan remains the largest source of HS 84-85 imports at roughly 25-30% of value, followed by China (~22%), Taiwan (~10%), Germany (~8%), and South Korea (~7%).
