Thailand LNG import volume (2020-2024)

~11.7 Mt (2024)

As of2020-2024·Sources1·Primary·Historical series (5 points)

Thailand's LNG imports more than doubled from approximately 5.6 million tonnes in 2020 to roughly 11.7 million tonnes in 2024 per the Energy Policy and Planning Office (EPPO) and the International Group of Liquefied Natural Gas Importers (GIIGNL). The step-change came in 2022-2023 as the Erawan field operatorship transition from Chevron to PTTEP triggered a sharp drop in domestic Gulf of Thailand output, forcing PTT to backfill via spot and short-term LNG cargoes. Thailand became the world's seventh-largest LNG importer in 2024 by volume, behind Japan, China, South Korea, Taiwan, India, and France. EPPO and PDP 2024 projections envisage imports rising toward 18-20 Mtpa by 2030 as domestic gas continues to decline.
