PDP 2024 grid-scale BESS capacity target (2025-2037)

Thailand's Power Development Plan (PDP) 2024 sets a battery energy storage system (BESS) target of approximately 10.5-14 GW by 2037, alongside the 50 GW renewable-capacity goal. EGAT's near-term roadmap targets ~0.5-1 GW by 2026, ramping through the late 2020s as solar and wind penetration rises. Ember's cost-optimal pathway analysis (September 2025) recommends an additional 6 GW / 15 GWh of battery storage beyond the PDP target to capture USD 1.8 billion in 2026-2037 cost savings. Procurement is led by EGAT directly plus IPPs required to pair storage with new solar PPA awards, with CATL, BYD, Fluence, and Tesla Megapack competing for tenders.
